Fibber McGee & Molly Old Time Radio Collection

Fibber and Molly

Fibber McGee and Molly had its early beginnings as a program called The Smackouts, a five-times-a-week serial. in which the Jordans played. Jim played a garrulous grocery-store owner who was always “smackout” of everything. The Smackouts lasted four years from 1931 - 1935. Fibber and Molly were created for Johnson Wax, which was looking for a new program to sponsor. Fibber McGee and Molly stayed on the air until 1952, usually on Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. The McGee’s live at 79 Wistful Vista and Fibber McGee, was fast talking man who was prone to exaggeration. His long-suffering wife, Molly, insisted "T’aint funny McGee," but they had radio audiences laughing for almost 25 years. This incredible comedy featured a cast of hilarious characters: a pesky little girl named Teeny, the snobby Mrs. Abigail Uppington, subservient husband Wallace Wimple, the next door neighbor Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, and more. Then, of course, there was McGee’s notorious closet, which seemed to take on a life of it’s own - heaping random objects upon Fibber, friends and family each time it was opened, and becoming one of the most memorable gags in radio.
