Sam Spade, Detective: Film star Howard Duff played Sam Spade, Lurene Tuttle was Effie Perrine, his perfect secretary and John McIntire was Lt. Dundy. Spade was meticulous enough to make a report on each case as it progressed. As the half-hour show unfolded, these reports were sent to Effie so she (and the audience) always knew the score. The radio series based loosely on the private detective character Sam Spade, created by writer Dashiell Hammett for The Maltese Falcon.
