The Whistler: Was identified by the mournful whistling of the theme music. He never actually participated in the dramas. He observed the actions of the participants and commented on the ironies of life. Most of the episodes in Volume One of this series are from the sustaining CBS East Coast shows from 1943.   The Whistler: The original version of this long-running program was heard in the Pacific and Mountain time zones over CBS as a half-hour, Sunday evening broadcast for the Signal Oil Company. Bill Forman was "The Whistler" in that version, with Marvin Miller as the announcer, (1945-54). Miller also played the part for six months while Forman served in the Army. For a short time the program was produced independently and simultaneously in Chicago, with Everett Clarke as "The Whistler." Volume two includes 16 full-length half-hour shows with commercials for Signal Oil.
