The Whistler - Volume 3 | |||||||||||||||||||
TAGLINE: "I am The Whistler. And I know many things, for I walk by night. I know many strange tales hidden in the hearts of men and women who have stepped into the shadows." The two-octave range of the theme made it an extremely difficult assignment for whistlers, and the only person who ever mastered it was a girl, Dorothy Roberts. Starring: Bill Forman, Marvin Miller

The Whistler: Was identified by the mournful whistling of the theme music. He never actually participated in the dramas. He observed the actions of the participants and commented on the ironies of life. These are full-length uncut half-hour shows from 1945 - 46. The Whistler was a favorite of Hollywood's top radio performers and movie stars. The Whister was such a big hit on radio that Columbia Pictures produced eight feature films all but one of which starred Richard Dix. |

| The Whistler: The original version of this long-running program was heard in the Pacific and Mountain time zones over CBS as a half-hour, Sunday evening broadcast for the Signal Oil Company. Bill Forman was "The Whistler" in that version, with Marvin Miller as the announcer, (1945-54). Miller also played the part for six months while Forman served in the Army. For a short time the program was produced independently and simultaneously in Chicago, with Everett Clarke as "The Whistler." Volume four includes 16 full-length half-hour shows with commercials for Signal Oil. |
